Columbus Engagement Photographer

Marie and Ricky have been together since high school 🥰 They’re officially engaged and planning a backyard wedding for this October! Marie wanted to do their engagement photos on her parent’s property where the wedding will be, and man oh man, was it so much fun! We listened to music, made smores, and drank beer by a campfire. Well, they drank beer. I didn’t because we want all the photos to be in focus and make it home safely haha.

While I was there, I ended up meeting some of Marie’s family. Her parents, since it was their home, and then her grandma too! Dad gave me a brief history of the property, which I love hearing! Their home is a renovated barn that has been in the family since grandma was a little girl. She grew up in the house across the street but now lives in the house next door. This is why I love small towns 😍

Originally, Marie and Ricky weren’t going to have their wedding there, so mom and dad started doing some more remodeling. Nothing major, just adding a 2 story deck and a closed-in porch with a hot tub. Now that their home is wedding central, the project has moved into warp speed to get it done and beautified by October.

We had to reschedule the original date we planned for the session (thanks Ohio), and almost got rained out again on this day. Even though it was cloudy and sprinkled a bit, it was actually the perfect atmosphere for carrying Marie’s idea of a campfire and smores theme. I always have thousand times more fun shooting when a couple makes the session uniquely about them! Thankfully, Marie and I both had our Hunter boots on and ready for all the mud and ridiculously soft ground we encountered 😂

I really appreciated Marie and Ricky’s willingness to do an engagement session with me, even though they had gotten one in Ricky’s hometown of Chicago. It means so much to me when couples trust me! We had a blast and photographing them made me feel prepared for the wedding day. Spoiler alert: there will be a crapton of cute photos because the camera loves these two!!!
